Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland Coastal Waters Wind Warning For waters from Torres Strait to Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay. Issued at 11:00 am EST on Sunday 26 May 2013 Synoptic Situation A large high [1031 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east during the next few days, extending a strengthening ridge over much of Queensland. Large south to southeasterly waves are expected to affect southern Queensland waters [south of Sandy Cape] during the remainder of the Sunday, resulting in rough surf conditions. Strong Wind Warning Torres Strait to Cairns Southeasterly winds 25 to 30 knots. Seas to 3 metres outside the reef and 2.2 metres inside the reef. Southeasterly swell 1.5 metres outside the reef. Strong Wind Warning Cairns to St. Lawrence Expect south to southeasterly winds 25 to 30 knots to extend from the south during Sunday, reaching Cairns by late afternoon. Seas increasing to 3 metres in open waters. South to southeasterly swell 1.5 to 2 metres. Strong Wind Warning St. Lawrence to Double Island Point South to southeasterly winds 25 to 30 knots. Seas 3 to metres in open waters. South to southeasterly swells 2 to 3 metres in open waters, reaching 4 metres offshore. UPDATED Strong Wind Warning Hervey Bay Waters Winds have decreased below 26 knots but expect southeasterly winds to reach 25 to 30 knots during Monday afternoon and evening. CANCELLED Strong Wind Warning Double Island Point to Point Danger Winds are no longer expect to exceed 26 knots. The next warning will be issued by 5 pm AEST. Please be aware Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here, and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.
